Equitation in the French tradition is a school of horseback riding that emphasizes harmonious relations between humans and horses. The fundamental horse-training principles and processes are guided by non-violence and lack of constraint, blending human demands with respect for the horse’s body and mood.
Although practised throughout France and elsewhere, the most widely known community is the Cadre Noir of Saumur, based at the National School of Equitation.

The question of France's reputation in the equestrian sector no longer arises since the country has become a demographically essential country for horse riding. France also hosts the largest equestrian gathering in the world in Sologne. A record officially validated by the Guinness World Records. It is a gentle sport which promotes awareness in young people, gives muscle tone and improves balance and longevity of the body.
